A-1 Pool's reputation for knock-your-socks-off customer service is largely a result of our commitment to thorough training and certification, throughout our entire staff.
Training and certifications are gained through APSP (Association of Pool and Spa Professionals) and NSPF (National Swimming Pool Foundation.) A-1 Pools invests in training, employee raises are based upon it, and ongoing training is deeply woven into our company culture. The more we know, the better we serve you!
There is always a CPO available at A-1 Pools to provide advice and answer questions. The CPO certification provides the expert knowledge required to run any pool, from a residential pool to a commercial aquatic center. Rest assured, our trained staff has the knowledge to help your family enjoy the benefits of perfect water.
The CSP is the highest standard for service technicians in the pool industry. A-1 Pools is proud of our CSP staff and of those technicians working towards their CSP with other certifications including CMS (Certified Maintenance Specialist), CST (Certified Service Technician) and CHTT (Certified Hot Tub Technician). All of this top tier training insures the A-1 Pools Service Technician is a professional prepared to provide the best customer service.
A-1 Pools is not just a member of APSP, the world's largest professional pool and spa trade association, we are actively involved. Jason Miller, VP of A-1 Pools, has served on the board of directors since 2008 and is the current President of the Midwest Chapter APSP, which includes half of Wisconsin and half of Illinois. APSP involvement benefits our company and our customers by keeping us informed of the latest codes, safety concerns, and products.
A-1 Pools is a member of BBB and has also been accredited by the BBB which means BBB has determined that A-1 Pools meets their accreditation standards, including a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints.
The A-1 Pool Service Team has won multiple customer service awards, most recently winning the Superior Service Award from the APSP Midwest Chapter. We are very proud of this award since after meeting certain minimum requirements, the deciding factor in winning this award was our customers.
Service companies entered were required to submit 100 service customers which were sent surveys until at least 50 responses were collected. Award winning companies needed to receive nearly perfect responses from surveyed customers.

A-1 Pools began in 1979 when Dale Miller, at age 25, started West Bend Fence. Dale had spent the last 7 years building fence and pools full time for another business. Having started a family and purchased an affordable first home about an hour away from his job, Dale wanted to build a business on his own. With his employers permission he started West Bend Fence where Dale built fence and decks for local customers on evenings and weekends. It wasn't long before Dale applied his pool experience and began building pools and selling pool supplies from a simply display in the family garage, and A-1 Pools was born.
As news of Dale's reputation for quality and integrity spread, the business quickly grew into a full time operation. In 1988 A-1 Pools expanded into its current West Bend location and his wife Marilyn began managing the retail location full time until she retired from these duties in 1994 due to illness.
Dale's son Jason joined the company full time in 2001 and in 2003 A-1 Pools expanded its West Bend location and launched A1PoolFun.com. Jason currently manages day to day operations as the Vice President & General Manager.
In 2014 A-1 Pools acquired New Berlin Pool & Spa, which coincidentally was also founded in 1979, and established a second retail location directly serving the Milwaukee and Waukesha markets.
A-1 Pools leads the industry at employing technology to increase customer service. At the hub of this technology is our business software which resides on our private server. Purchasing the hardware, software and infrastructure to make it work was quite an investment, but the real investment is in the time spent to refine the software to optimize our customer service.
All of our inventory is computer controlled. This enables A-1 Pools to reduce stock-outs while ensuring the correct products are in our retail stores and on our service vans when they are needed by our customers. The same system allows all of our staff to know what items you purchase, what warranty remains on your purchases, all details related to past current and future service, instant documentation of owner's manuals and product images, images related to your pool and spa equipment as well as details, including serial numbers and installation dates, of your pool and spa equipment.
Our retail stores are networked together in real time and our service field technicians' network in via their tablets in real time to ensure the best and most relevant communication to serve our customers. Additionally, our service vans are tracked in real time via GPS which documents arrival time, departure time and safe driving habits in addition to maintenance needed on vehicles. Keeping our vehicles running, driving the best routes and keeping our vans stocked all works towards getting your work completed more efficiently.
Customers can order products and service in our retail store 7 days a week, 361 days a year (we are closed just 4 days each year). Additionally, our products and services can also be ordered online 24 hours a day 365 days a year at A1PoolFun.com.
Our retail stores are equipped with digital learning centers where staff can bring up helpful videos on their tablets and even push them onto our big screens for customer viewing because pictures are worth a thousand words when it comes to demonstrating products and how to perform maintenance functions.
A-1 Pools is committed to offering the highest quality of products which we define as fairly priced products proven to be reliable and backed by a manufacturer and/or supplier dedicated to supporting the product and satisfying the customer. A-1 Pools knows that selling great products that come with strong support makes serving our customers easier. A-1 Pools has a reputation in the industry for being picky about what we sell and for demanding the best service from our suppliers. As such, we have partnered with the best suppliers and manufacturers in the industry because they complement our approach to customer service. A-1 Pools will not sell products that our staff does not believe in just to make a sale. A-1 Pools requires that manufacturers allow us to process warranty concerns for our customers for at least one year, so you don't need to worry about being pushed off to the manufacturer if you run into trouble.
